A Seamless Transition: A Military Family’s Journey to Finding Their Home

January 6, 2025

For many military families, frequent moves come with unique challenges, from uprooting lives to finding a home that truly fits their needs. Heather and Larry, who have moved seven times in the last 11 years, recently made the transition to Hampton Roads, Virginia, and they describe the experience as one of their smoothest yet. Their new home strikes the perfect balance of comfort, functionality, and community, creating an ideal space for their growing family.

Heather and Larry are parents to two boys, with a third child on the way. When Heather, an orthodontist in the Air Force, received her orders to relocate to Langley Air Force Base from Texas, they knew exactly what they needed: an open, inviting home in a welcoming community, offering plenty of space for their growing family to thrive.

A Streamlined Homebuying Experience

From the start of their search, Heather and Larry felt confident in the process. Greenwood Homes, in partnership with their realtor, ensured the couple felt supported at every stage. “This move felt different,” Larry noted. “Everything was handled so well—we knew what to expect, and by the time we arrived, it felt like we already belonged.”

After touring multiple homes, Heather and Larry found what they were looking for. Heather shared, “When we walked in, we just knew. It was everything we didn’t know we were looking for. You could see the care and pride in every detail of the home."

A Perfect Fit for a Growing Family

Their new home features everything Heather and Larry had hoped for and more. The bright kitchen with white cabinets and a large pantry is one of Heather’s favorite spaces, perfect for keeping up with their two active boys. They also transformed the loft into a guest retreat, which has become a favorite spot for visitors. “It’s great for hosting and gives guests their own little haven,” Heather shared.

The family has also made the most of the spacious yard, spending evenings playing kickball and wiffle ball with their boys and other neighborhood children. “The sense of safety and community here reminds me of my own childhood,” Larry added.

Building Community and Connections

One of the standout aspects of Heather and Larry’s experience has been the welcoming community. From friendly neighbors introducing themselves to a supportive environment for their children, the family has quickly settled into their new neighborhood. “Our boys already have a pack of friends, and the community feels like an extension of our family,” Larry shared.

Heather and Larry are grateful for the thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship of their home. “You can see the pride they put into each home,” Heather said. “It’s not just about selling houses—it’s about creating communities.”
