Future-Driven: Celebrating Women in Construction
March 4, 2024
March 3-9th is officially Women in Construction Week (WIC). This time is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the role of women in the construction industry. National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) held the first WIC Week in 1998 and it has grown and expanded each year since.
We wanted to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of the remarkable women who play a pivotal role in our business's success. As we celebrate the achievements of women in the construction industry, we proudly acknowledge the strength, expertise, and dedication that our female team members bring to the forefront of our company.
Within our organization, women occupy key positions that are essential to our achievements. Amanda LeMon, our Vice President of Sales, exemplifies leadership as she guides our strategies and sales team, ensuring the realization of our vision to create A Better Way Home in each of our communities. Our Purchasing Managers meticulously source the highest quality materials for our projects, guaranteeing the excellence of our homes. The majority of our Neighborhood Sales Managers are women, contributing extensive knowledge of the construction and home-buying process to provide our customers with a seamless experience. Additionally, our team includes Acquisitions and Asset Managers, Project Managers overseeing home construction, and marketing professionals who craft compelling narratives for our brand.
At Greenwood Homes, we are passionate about fostering an inclusive environment where talent transcends gender barriers. We are committed to providing equal opportunities for growth and success, believing that everyone, regardless of gender, should have the chance to excel in the new home construction field.
As we reflect on the significant strides made by women in the construction industry, we extend our gratitude to the women at Greenwood Homes who continue to contribute to our success. They are an integral part of our story, and their resilience, expertise, and dedication play a crucial role in shaping the future of our company.
Q&A with Shawn Woody, Project Manager
We had the opportunity to interview Shawn Woody, an experienced Project Manager at Greenwood Homes, to gain insight into her journey in construction and what she loves most about this industry. Shawn's passion for construction began when she started working with her father, who was in the home warranty business. Early on, she developed a love for the construction industry and has over two decades of experience in both subcontracting and general contracting. Her career has spanned across different sectors, from commercial to residential, showcasing her versatility and expertise in the field.
Q: What aspect of your role as a Project Manager do you find most fulfilling or enjoyable?
A: Seeing a project take shape from the ground up, starting with a vision and ending with a completed design, is truly gratifying. Our goal is to bring joy to our homeowners, and that is why we do what we do.
Q: Do you enjoy working in residential construction more than other areas of the industry you've been involved in?
A: I love working in residential construction because it's a fast-paced environment that allows us to interact with homeowners on a personal level. Although residential projects can be lengthy sometimes, they provide more opportunities to meet and connect with people and I enjoy that part of the job.
Q: What is your favorite part of the construction process and working with clients?
A: I enjoy walking them through the process and seeing that gratification at the very end of the process. For many people, their home is a significant investment, and they trust us to do our best job with it. Our goal is to take care of them and ensure they are happy with our services. Our level of service reflects our commitment to our customers, and we hope they can feel that. This is what sets us apart at Greenwood.
